This spring, we rented an apartment in the center of town, close to the restaurant Pierluigi (a favorite spot for us and so many who pass through Rome), which means I’m spending a lot of time here. And this summer, it seems that everyone who has missed this beautiful city is back! While I’ve done an extensive Rome Black Book, which I continue to update, I think a summer edition is in order–because you really do experience the city in such a different way when it’s blazing hot and crowded. It’s a bit more about survival tactics, because it really becomes about how to stay cool for as much of the day as possible, so you can actually enjoy your time here and the heat isn’t the first thing you think of when you remember your trip.
HOTELS
I’ve written about all of my favorite hotels in our Rome Black Book, but since this is the summer of everything being overbooked, I’m suggesting some additional hotels I’ve discovered since arriving here—they’re all a bit off the beaten path, or have a lot of rooms, so they may have availability for last-minute bookings.
