While I did Luxor to Aswan, I don’t think it matters–perhaps it has to do with your dates–I imagine the boats just go back and forth. The Nour el Nil doesn’t pick up in Luxor–it is about an hour (if my memory serves correctly) drive where you get the boats. We wouldn’t have seen anything in Luxor had we not arrived in advance. As for boat vs car, I have no idea on the car–but the thing about the boat is, the guides are included–and you don’t have to think about anything. Which I’d say is a big plus if you’re with a toddler! Good luck, and sorry, we didn’t see this until much later than you commented!

A few lingering doubts:
1. What’s up with the Luxor to Aswan OR Aswan to Luxor river cruise debate? Is one direction really better than the other, and which direction is ultimately the best?
2. If staying in Luxor, what sites are to be covered that won’t be covered by the river cruise? We have a toddler with us, so really just trying to understand if we can stay in Luxor and see everything between Luxor & Aswan by road..or do we really need a river cruise, as driving or road conditions are that bad out there. Any input here would be so appreciated.
