Our Favorite Driving Shoes

With its origins in Italy in the 1960s, the soft leather shoe with the rubber-studded sole was created to have flexibility and grip when driving Italian sports cars. Decades after automatic transmissions came to dominate our rides, you now see versions hybridized with loafers, moccasins and boat shoes. We love a driving moc for travel—they’re light and pack up flat, grippy on European cobblestones and marble steps, and can easily go from day to dinner. Here are a few favorite versions!

1. Ann Mashburn – Great hybrid of Italian and Native American moccasin in a soft suede – $295

2. M. Gemi – Love these in a light latte, even if they risk getting dirty. Also like that they come in so many colors/patterns, including leopard. – $198

3. Veronica Beard – A loafer cross-breed, which can look more elevated – $295

4. Gucci – These driving shoes have a horsebit, naturally. – $950

5. Yuketen – Somewhere between a boat shoe and a moccasin, and it’s all hand-stitched in the USA – $671

6. Scarosso – Who doesn’t need a pair of blue suede shoes? A great neutral. – $290

7. Cole Haan – Very into the braided tassels – $150

8. Tod’s – The OG driver, the “Gommino.” – $695 and up

9. Minnetonka – The classic driver in black moosehide; love the tonal contrast between the laces and the shoe. And the price is so good! – $89.95
